The Concept of 2016 Toyota Setsuna

2016 Toyota Setsuna review - In a world where steel, aluminum, plastic and carbon fiber are the dominating materials that make up the car we drive, Toyota has done something different. Toyota meet Concept of 2016 Toyota Setsuna - a car made almost entirely of wood. Well, that might be a bit excessive,  suspension, chassis, and drivetrain still made of some kind of metal, and tires are still made of rubber, but the body, and most of the interior is made from a choice of wood. Interesting, huhf?

Wood Concept of 2016 Toyota Setsuna

Toyota claims the decision to use wood to make this concept is because it reflects the evolving relationship between people and their cars, saying "symbolizes how the cars undergo a gradual transformation." For the concept, some type of wood used, and while something like this could never go into production, Toyota claims it can last for several generations of 2016 Toyota Setsuna,if properly taken care of.

As you can see from the images provided by Toyota, the car is really made mainly of wood. Exterior of 2016 Toyota Setsuna mainly consist of Japanese Cedar, while the frame that holds everything together is constructed from birch Japan. A technique known as okuriari3 used to join all the pieces together, which means there are no nails or screws used to hold the pieces of wood together.

The overall shape of this concept is quite interesting, because it takes the general shape of a boat. If 2016 Toyota Setsuna were not for all the metal in the chassis, this baby will probably float well, but Toyota did not elaborate on that specifically. Outside Chassis, only the metal parts to talk about is the ring that surrounds the exterior waist, the lights in the front, and mount to windshield glass. Rims look like they may be made of some kind of metal, but it has been described in the same Japanese cedar that make up the body. The dark accent trim along the front fender, and around the door is touch really nice. It does not surprise me that Toyota found a way to have some contrasting tones in there somewhere.

Concept officially debut next month at the Milan Design Week 1, so Toyota has left a bit of a mystery in the mix by not releasing any shots of the interior 2016 Toyota Setsuna. It's safe to assume that most of the cabins are made of wood, and we can see that the chairs are made of wooden planks, and a steering wheel made of wood, stained to match the exterior trim accents. There seems to be some skin wrapped around the headrest and seat, maybe more for the convenience. Beyond that, we have to wait until the official debut of the concept to see what is really going on inside. Thanks for visit.
